1921 | Established in Kobe as “Kobe Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd.” modeled after the Baltic Exchange in London. |

1922 | The first issue of “Kobe Shipping Exchange General Bulletin”, the forerunner of the monthly magazine KAIUN, was published. |
1926 | Formed the Tokyo Maritime Arbitration Commission and established the Arbitration Division. Started activities as the only permanent maritime arbitration organization in Japan. |
1929 | The first issue of “Nihon Senpaku Meisaisho” (REGISTER OF JAPANESE SHIPS)was published. |
1933 | Dissolved the stock company and reorganized the Japan Shipping Exchange, an incorporated association. |
1948 | Opened Tokyo Office. |
1953 | Established the Editorial Committee. |
1958 | Organized Documentary Committee. |
1962 | Maritime Arbitration Rules, etc., fundamentally revised. |
1966 | Headquarters relocated from Kobe to Tokyo. |
1968 | Set a business alliance with the Baltic International Maritime Council (BIMCO) regarding the standard contract forms. |
1978 | Maritime Arbitration Agreement concluded between the Tokyo Maritime Arbitration Commission and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. |
1979 | Established the Mediation Commission. |
1982 | Arbitration Cooperation Agreement concluded among the Tokyo Maritime Arbitration Commission, the Asia-Africa Legal Advisory Board, and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Arbitration Center. |
1988 | Tokyo Conference of the International Council of Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) jointly held with the International Commercial Arbitration Association. |
2002 | Participated in the Arbitration Study Group of the Headquarters for the Promotion of Judicial System Reform and the enactment of the Arbitration Law. |
2004 | Launched “THE MARINERS’ DIGEST,” the English quarterly magazine for non-Japanese seafarers who worked at Japanese merchant fleet. |
2006 | Established the Seminar Planning Committee |
2013 | Changed an incorporated organization to a general incorporated organization. |
2021 | Celebrated 100th anniversary on September 8 |
