Arbitration at the Japan Shipping Exchange
Since 1926, the Japan Shipping Exchange has been the only permanent maritime arbitration institution in Japan and has been leading the resolution of various maritime disputes regardless of domestic or international maritime service.
“Arbitration” is an alternative dispute resolution method to the court system, as stipulated in the Arbitration Law, whereby the resolution of disputes are referred to one or more arbitrators based on the parties’ arbitration agreement.

“Documentary Committee” enacts various standard contract forms in Japanese, and the forms are sold by JSE.

Appraisal
In addition to appraisals of domestic and ocean-going merchant vessels, JSE provides appraisals and certifications for all maritime transactions.

JSE provides training courses and educational seminars to support the development of human resources in the maritime community.

Publishing
JSE distributes a variety of information on maritime affairs through the monthly magazine “KAIUN” and other publications.
