JSE supports building your intelligence and human network of maritime community in Japan.
About JSE
The Japan Shipping Exchange(JSE)is a fair and neutral private organization. About 400 members support our business activities. The members include all aspects of the Japanese maritime industry such as shipping, shipbuilding, ship equipment, ship management, insurance, finance, shippers, trading companies, brokers and agents, port, warehouse and intermodal transportation businesses, law firms and so on.
Its predecessor, Kobe Shipping Exchange, Ltd. was founded in Kobe on September 8, 1921, modeled after The Baltic Mercantile & Shipping Exchange, Ltd. in London.
Commercial functions such as the Baltic Exchange, however, were not successful at that time, therefore, the company shifted its business focus.
It developed with a focus on maritime arbitration and other public interest projects. Then, Kobe Shipping Exchange, Ltd was reorganized as the “The Japan Shipping Exchange,” an incorporated association, in 1933. In 1966, the headquarters was relocated to Tokyo, where it remains to this day.
Currently, JSE is engaged in three main businesses: (1) arbitration, (2) courses and seminars, and (3) publication. It also has other services such as vessel appraisals and the formulation and sale of contract forms.
We will continue to provide services that contribute to our members and the maritime industry for the further development of the Japanese maritime community.
